Elections have consequences

Sentinel at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier

This is not a “Who is” post. I have already done one on Gentle Ben. This post actually has to do with the necessity of voting.

Yes elections matter.  On Tuesday, November 3rd, there was an off year election.  Off year elections results, which begin with Democrats not voting, have been the cause of much of the grief that we as a nation are experiencing.

This one is no different.  First, 500,000 Kentuckians may lose their health insurance, because a rabid Tea Party Republican was elected Governor. The Democratic candidate, Jack Conway was ahead in the polls and expected to win by a considerable margin. Instead Matt Beven won. Why is this important? Well it has consequences. First KY has the best run ACA exchange in the country. Mr. Beven based on his hatred of Obamacare, made it clear that if he were elected, he would dismantle the program. He does not care that 500K people in his state will be without healthcare. He wants it gone. The fear in DC is that the dismantling of that Exchange could cause the unraveling of the law.  Millions of people could lose their insurance, because once again the Dems stayed away from the voting booth.
Secondly, Mr. Conway who is the Attorney General was expected to run against Rand Paul for his Senate seat in 2016.  Those plans have probably been dashed by his loss on Tuesday.

There are other instances of losses, due to lack of Democratic voters participation.  All of which have real life consequences for many of us.

Ben Carson's lack of understanding is on full display in this radio ad.

In what world does this man live that he thinks that Rap Music is needed to encourage Blacks to listen or vote for him.
I can almost forgive Romney and others of his ilk for not getting it, but Carson?

It seems as though every time he opens his mouth, the reaction is the same from those of us who are not drinking the Kool-Aid. “What is he talking about” or “How can a noted neurosurgeon believe the drivel that comes out of his mouth or that he writes."

His tweet a couple of days ago reminding us that amateurs built Noah’s Ark and professionals the Titanic, defies commonsense. I am sure that the comparison makes sense to him, but to whom else? The “make our country great again crowd”?

Moving on, back actually, Dr. Carson in a speech at Andrews University in 1998, he told the graduates that he believed the pyramids in Egypt were built by Joseph, the Joseph from the Old Testament to store grain.  No one alive today knows for sure who built the pyramids, but obviously Dr. Carson did not just come to his biblical explanations.

What particularly scares me about Gentle Doc Carson is, that with his soft-spoken ways and evangelical background he might be able to con enough Americans into voting for him that he ends up in the Oval Office and we will all go straight to hell in a hand basket.

And don’t tell me it can’t happen.  If the Feel the Bern crowd decides not to vote because he did not get the nomination, or the Clinton followers decide not to vote, because she did not get it, it is conceivable that a Ben Carson could be elected.

Yes, elections have consequences.

  1. I so agree with you June. I listen to this man and wonder if America is on a suicide mission. I am scared, to all of us who understand we need to start planning just in case.

  2. It's pretty simple. Democratic voters are not as committed as Republican voters. They tend to show up for national elections - but not for local elections. The GOP shows up for everthing - even dog catcher.

  3. Hillary Clinton said a few days ago, that Democratic voters are 'personality driven'. She nailed that one.

  4. Dr Carson informed us that it is okay that he have never held elected office, none of the Founding Fathers did neither. Wrong. Several of them were elected office holders.
